Welcome to Winslow!

Welcome to Mrs. Peter's Class at Winslow, Arizona.
My class web site is a creative way to get students interested in volcanoes. I will provide them with a variety of projects and activities that will give them various opportunities to explore the internet while learning more about volcanoes, their effects, and locations. Within the project the students will complete an Internet scavenger hunt to gain a basic understanding about volcanoes, then they will locate, research, answer questions and summarize information about volcanic eruptions of the past. Next using key questions, they will use the Internet to access personal accounts from survivors of eruptions. Groups will use this information to report to the class, in an oral or written format, the effects of the volcanic eruption at the assigned site. Next the group will locate and chart active volcanoes on a world map. They will also use the Internet to ask an expert one question they haven't been unable to find out. Finally we will be participating in a literature study, using the book Twenty-one Balloons. We will create an island and write a description and/or travel brochure to share and exchange with other interested classrooms. Details of each project will be outlined within my web page and rubrics will be available for each project. Of course, I will provide valuable sites and plenty of links so students can explore a wealth of ideas on the web while gathering more information on each topic.
